Purpose of Gems

i created this blog to share my reflections, feelings, interests and experiences as a way of acknowledging the oneness of the human experience in the myriad of ways in which we all touch each others' lives through sharing..

i am striving to live my life as a Baha'i, regarding every human being with the innate potential to reflect the gems or virtues of God -- those God-given spiritual powers latent within our souls to be developed and expressed in this life for the betterment of the world and the progress of our soul in the next life.
"Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value.  Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures and enable mankind to benefit therefrom."

by regarding every soul with this potential, i am inspired to associate and mingle with everyone with a heart open to love them for the sake of God and to see the gem-like potential within them.

i know that when i meet a soul, especially a child, it is as if God has brought us together as an opportunity to grow, learn, serve or share joy with each other.

if the personality is difficult, or the situation with others is very challenging, even unjust, i know i am to discern the wisdom in it for my own soul to grow -- perhaps it is to practice overlooking the faults of others; perhaps it is to test the purity of my heart; or perhaps it is to grow in a divine quality, like patience, in which i am weak.

my hope is that each post serves as a means of touching someone's heart to see the Oneness of the human experience, that we all are part of bringing forth an ever-advancing civilization through discovering and nurturing the gem-like reality of man in each soul.
"All praise and glory be to God Who, through the power of His might, hath delivered His creation from the nakedness of non-existence, and clothed it with the mantle of life. From among all created things He hath singled out for His special favor the pure, the gem-like reality of man, and invested it with a unique capacity of knowing Him and of reflecting the greatness of His glory."
