there is a gem of a little girl named magdelene who i find myself cherishing more and more each time i see her. she is 10 years old. she's very, very quiet and yet inquisitive, clever, thoughtful, tender and purehearted in her way of demonstrating her personality. tonight she came to our 'sunday night storytelling'. she didn't talk with anyone but offered one prayer when it was time for Devotions. before saying goodbye to me she asked gently, 'Auntie Pamela, may i please have a storybook about the Baha'i Faith?' it was so, so sweet and genuine. her heart has been touched by the spirit of Baha'u'llah without me speaking with her directly. i offered her Joyce Liggitt's book, The Life of Baha'u'llah. it is written for young souls. she was very happy to receive it..
about 20 minutes later, after the boys were tucked in and we were in the kitchen talking with ayana, cleaning up for the night, there was a knock on the door. it was magdelene. she came to ask how to pronounce many of the Persian words in the book: Qa'im, Asiyih Khanum, Mihdi, etc. i felt my heart growing with immense love for this little soul, this precious heart that is seeking to understand what the Baha'i Faith is all about, all on her own. it feels like such a bounty to witness a soul searching for union with God..
Every human being is created noble, endowed by God with spiritual qualities and attributes that are able to shine like gems, reflecting the light and beauty of God. Our souls emanate this light through pure and goodly deeds, and boundless love for the human race.
